I’m applying for a research job. Here’s the job description:
“[The Company] is currently looking for Associate Consultants in our [] office to augment our ‘Talent & Location’ practice. The Associate Consultant will work closely with the Sr. Consultants and the Consultants in collecting, validating, analyzing and reporting the talent and location related data. He/She will also assist in writing reports and thought leadership articles.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Collect, synthesize, validate and document the data on location, talent attributes
* Conduct intelligent online and offline searches
* Conduct primary interviews through in-person and telephonic conversations
* Analyze the collected data and document in the pre-defined templates
* Distill complex information to develop reports, white papers, research articles
* Day-to-day responsibilities includes meeting/discussions with colleagues to identify emerging needs and quickly adapt to the changing priorities. ”

Can someone please clarify what the talent and location data means and what you think I’d be doing day-to-day? Is this a sales/recruiting job in disguise? I’d appreciate the help. I’m a recent college graduate who hasn’t applied for full time jobs like these before.

It sounds like a benchmarking company. They collect data from interviews and then analyze it and sell the data back to the same companies that give them the data. The report compares their company to all the other companies. It sounds like you would be conducting interviews and then participating in the analysis. You may have to make calls to convince people to answer the interviews, that may be the hardest part. I doubt you will do any selling, given that description. What they may mean by Talent and Location data are information about characteristics of employees that are valued and not valued and locations that are desirable versus not.
